The Golden Touch

April 17, 2013  •  14 Comments

Hello world,

I've thought long and hard about how to start my Blog but haven't been able to make a meaningful beginning. Recently, I came across an interesting situation that I thought might be worthy of sharing. It's about the willingness for thinking outside-the-box, endless quest for creativity, and making the most out of what's given.

I was on a lake in a personal boat. Ospreys were flying. I'd taken hundreds of photos of them that morning, when the sunlight was beautiful. When the sun got much higher, any photo of them flying above would have ended up like this.

But then I looked around, and came up with an idea. I maneuvered my boat to under a tree where there was some drooping Spanish Moss. I pointed my lens up and used the moss as an out-of-focus foreground. The Spanish Moss also acted as a light diffuser, and its color created a "golden" hue on the underwings of the Osprey.

One could say that the effect could easily be duplicated using a computer software such as Photoshop, but I much prefer to "get it right" within the camera. Besides, where's the satisfaction in that? :)

There we go! My first blog entry! Your feedback is most welcome. Thanks!

That's a simply beautiful photograph! I would never have thought of doing that with the Spanish moss. What a great idea! Thank you for sharing you gifts with us. I am not a photographer -- just love beautiful photos. And birds! :)

Interesting effect - who would have thought the moss would have created that?! Thank you for sharing your incredible talent!
